Learning about the Environment

Hello Students and Parents,

Throughout the next couple of weeks for science we will be learning about our environment. I would like you all to think about our environment and be ready to discuss it when we meet in class. What do you see around you? How is it that you get to school? What is it that you can do to help our environment? These are questions you should be thinking about. In class we will write in our journals about the environment, we will also be doing fun art related to the environment. I hope you are all excited as I am:)

Parents, the following link is helpful in getting you and your child started in learning about the environment

Math Expectations

Learning to count!

Hello students and Parents,

The following post will get us excited about learning mathematics. As part of the Kindergarten Math Curriculum, km15 students will demonstrate understanding of the counting concepts of staple order (the counting sequuence is always the same) 1 is always followed by 2, 2 by 3 and so on. And of order irrelevance (that is the concept that the number of objects in a set will be the same regardless of which object is used t0 begin the counting).

The following link will assist you in understanding the material and how to use it with your children.

Helpful Resources!!

Hello Parents and Students!

I wanted to take this opportunity to include here a couple of websites that may be very educational for your children. During the next few weeks we will be reading, writing, counting, and making patterns. Below are links to help you and your child get comfortable with what we will be doing in class.

All of the links are free to use at whatever time you decide to go on.

Reading has been a priority in our classroom, students often read independently, in partners or as a group. This following website will assist your child to learn how to read and make words with letter sounds. The website also has great tips for parents to use when teaching your child to read: http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/document/brochure/earlyreading/index.html#tip1

In math we are counting and making patterns. To help your child learn their numbers and making patterns here is a helpful link that is both fun and educational to get you started: http://www.ixl.com/math/practice/kindergarten-count-to-3

Educational Games and Activities

Hello Students and Parents,

I would like to share with a you a cool, fun and educational website I found. It is very helpful with many content areas such as math, science, literacy etc. On the first page you will find a list of the top 10 games children usually like to play the most. I would suggest trying the math popper. You have to pop the balloons with the correct answer before time runs out!

Parents: This website has a great deal of educational games to get your children excited and motivated to learn about many subjects that we will be learning throughout the school year. The site also has a section filled with helpful tips and information for parents and teachers.
